PATALINE MORRISSEY

Pataline Morrissey, 81, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday May 15, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

She was born August 18, 1926 in Mercer County to the late Elwood and Mary Jane Sallee Whitenack.

Her hobbies included traveling and word games, and she enjoyed costume jewelry. 

Survivors include: a son, Billy Morrissey of SC; one daughter, Connie Gayle Warfield of Frankfort; two brothers, Roland Whitenack of Harrodsburg and Milton Whitenack of TX; four sisters, Georgia Napier of Lebanon, TN, Pat Price Ransdell of Milltown, IN, Dana Ruth Haas of Corydon, IN, and Cindy Riddle of Stamping Ground; and several grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Tommy Morrissey, three brothers Carey, Jim and Jack Whitenack.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday May 19, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and after 7 a.m., Monday at the funeral home.

HENRY SETTLE

Henry Thomas Settle, 75, husband of Lois Settle, died Wednesday May 14, 2008.

He was born in Frankfort to the late Henry Thomas Settle Sr. and Elsie Dean Settle.

Mr. Settle served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving a bronze star, and was a retired employee of the Jim Beam Distillery. He was a member of the Leestown Gospel Church, American Legion post 7, and VFW post #4075.

He is survived by: his wife, Lois Settle; one daughter, Trina Settle Roberts of Frankfort; three sons, Kelly Settle of Frankfort, David T. Settle of Harrodsburg, and Henry W. Settle of Frankfort; one brother, Donald Settle of FL; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday May 16, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Reverend Billy Perkins officiating.

Clark Funeral Home-Versailles Rd. is in charge of the arrangements.

Donations may be made in his honor to the Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele Street, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.

ALICE SPURLOCK

Alice Mae Perkins Spurlock, 89, of West Brown, died Thursday, May 15, 2008at the Harrodsburg Health Care.

A native of Jessamine County she was born July 28, 1918, to the late Henry and Minnie Perkins. She was the widow of Jay F. Spurlock who died in 1980.

She was a member of Nicholasville Baptist Church and had been an employee of the Jessamine County Board of Education in the Middle School Cafeteria where she enjoyed many years of being with the children.

Survivors include her brother Edward (Dolly) Perkins, sisters-in-law Lillian Perkins, and Frances Perkins, special niece Cheryl Jones and her daughter Natalie Durham, and her children that Alice always called “her boys” Justin and Payton Durham along with numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, J. D., and Chester Perkins.

The family would like to acknowledge the kindness given to her by Amanda Bishop, Jamie Johnson, and Lois Williams who were her nurses at Harrodsburg Health Care.

Services will be 1 p. m.Saturday May 17, at the Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, Nicholasville. Burial will be in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Paul Douglas Ketron, Elmo Spurlock, Wayne Perkins, Kenneth Gregory, Dale and Justin Durham.

Honorary bearers will be Mike and Louise Hurt, Donna Hammonds, Tony Moffett, Ed Fuller, Teddy Reynolds, James D. Perkins, and E. J. and Sissy Presley.

BETTIE MCGUIRE

Bettie McGuire age 69 of Danville, died Wednesday May 14, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care.

She was born April 18, 1939 in Junction City, to the late George L. and Mamie McElfresh Rousey.

She was a 1957 graduate of Junction City High School and a former employee of Mercer Dress. Her hobbies included singing and collecting antiques.

Survivors include: one son Brian Kevin McGuire of Nicholasville; two sisters Eula McGurire and Mary Elizabeth McGuire, both of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Carroll (Rowena) Rousey  and Logan Rousey, both of Danville.

One son Keith Allen McGuire and two brothers James and Virgil Rousey preceded her in death.  

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday May 17, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Young officiating. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tony McGuire, Jeramy Hudnall, John Michael McGuire, Terry Rousey, Randy Grow and Brandon Grow.

No public visitation is scheduled.

JACK GEURIN

Rev. Jack Geurin, 72, of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, formerly of Murray, Kentucky, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.

He was born son of Rudolph and Mildred (Tucker) Geurin on November 4, 1935 in Calloway County. On August 15, 1970 he married Mary Jean Ingold in New Albany, IN.

At age 11, Jack accepted Christ as Savior and was baptized at Elm Grove Baptist Church, Murray. Brother Jack graduated from Murray Training School in 1954. While in high school he was called into the ministry and was ordained in 1955 in his home church, Elm Grove. He later graduated from Campbellsville College in 1966 and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1970.

For over 50 years, Brother Jack pastored churches in KY, IN, MO and TN. Most recently, he served in Mercer County as pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church, and was Director of Missions for Mercer Association of Kentucky Baptists. He also served as pastor of the Cornishville Baptist and the Bethel Baptist churches in Mercer County.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his mother, Mildred Geurin of Harrodsburg; a son, David (Loei) Geurin of Mt. Vernon, MO; two daughters, Jackie (Jeremiah) Bishop of Louisville, and Jeri (Mark) Stein of Union, SC; seven grandchildren, Drew, Cooper, Maddie, and Emma Geurin, Avery Bishop; and Austin and Haley Stein. He is also survived by one aunt, Mary Belle Brantley of Murray, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rudolph Geurin, eight aunts and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held in Harrodsburg, and Murray. The first service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church by Wayne Keuhner and Thurman Harris.

Visitation will be Friday from 5-9 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

The second service will be held at 5:00 p.m. (CST), also on Saturday at Elm Grove Baptist Church, Murray, by Al Cobb and Harold Greenfield.

Visitation will precede the service from 4-5 p.m. Interment to follow in Elm Grove Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Campbellsville University Scholarship Fund, New Hope Baptist Building Fund, or charity of your choice.

 

JEAN BOTTOM

Shelby Jean Bottom, 68, widow of Benny Bottom, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born July 12, 1940 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna Mae Bugg Gibson.

She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, a retired Hitachi employee and former Rand McNally employee.

Survivors include: five daughters, Sandra Davis of Wichita, KS, Kim Bottom of Harrodsburg, Crystal Kiassi of Lexington, Vicki Guzman of London and Sheryl Vaught of Madison, IN; two brothers, Roger Gibson of Danville and Dennis Gibson of Bradfordsville; three sisters, Magdalene Bunton of Lexington, Mildred Sharp of Lancaster, and Linda Gibson of Perryville; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Day.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Bro. James Harley officiating.

Shawn Gibson, Kevin Gibson, Mike Gibson, Bobbie Bunton, Brian Sims, and Ray Sivis will be serving as pallbearers.

Honorary bearers will be Rick Blaisdell and Taylor Lunsford.

Visitation will be at after 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

 

RUBY KENT

Ruby King Kent, 75, of Louisville, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Baptist East Hospital in Louisville.

Born October 14, 1932 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Mary Harlow King.

She was a homemaker, a Baptist, and enjoyed flowers and spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include: two daughters, Debbie (Dan) Handley of Ft. Myers, FL and Lisa Kent of Louisville; two sisters, Mae Arnett of Louisville and Helen Claunch of Harrodsburg; one grandson Mark (Jill) Handley of Louisville; two great-granddaughters, Sydney and Madison Handley; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer King.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dan Handley, Mark Handley, Bradley King, and Bill Powers.

Honorary bearers will be David Sims and Jerry Person.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

 

LIBBY DISPONETTE

     Mary “Libby” Peavler Marksbury Disponette, 71, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital.

     Born Oct. 12, 1936 in Mercer County, she was he daughter of the late Fred and Ethel V. Peavler and was the widow of Donald Disponette.

     She was a retired waitress for Columbia’s Steak Hosue.

     Survivors include: two sons, Davis (Beverly) Marksbury and Paul (Brenda) Marksbury; one daughter, Marsia (Jeffrey) Butler, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

     The funeral was held Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington. Burial was in Blue Grass memorial Gardens.

     Pallbearers were Davis “Lee” Marksbury, Dusty Warner, Don Freeman, Ronnie Johnson, James Lowry and Casey Marksbury.

ROGER FERGUSON

Roger Dean Ferguson, 80, died at his home in Panama City Beach, Florida, May 1, 2008.

Born April 18, 1928 he was the son of Zella and Homer Ferguson. He was the widower of Karen Rains-Ferguson.

He was a graduate of Henry Clay High School and a long time Lexington businessman. He owned the Fayette Cigar Store from 1954 to 1986 and Roger’s Hallmark greeting card stores in Cincinnati, Ohio, Lexington, Louisville, Newport and Richmond, Kentucky.

Survivors include: his wife, Maxine Ferguson; two sons, Dean Ferguson and Doug Ferguson; one daughter, Lisa Ferguson-Day; three grandchildren, Chris Ferguson, Lauren Ferguson and Connor Day; and one brother, Dale Ferguson.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dick and Murray Ferguson, and two sisters, Helen and Virginia Ferguson.

He was cremated and memorial services were held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 in Panama City Beach, Florida.

EVA FISHER

     Eva Peavler Fisher, 85, died Tuesday, April 22, 2208.

     Born Aug. 20, 1922 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Byron and Laura Peavler and was the widow of Richard Hampton Fisher.

     Survivors include: two daughters, Robyn (Louis) Bourgois of Lexington and Lisa E. Fisher of Salem, Indiana; two sons, Richard (Eileen) Fisher of Frankfort and Randy (Janice Kline) Fisher of Lexington; two brothers, Hugh L. Peavler, Richmond and Morris Peavler, Burgin; one sister, Mary Anne Merriman of Danville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

     A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Spring Hill Cemetery.

     Memorial contributions may be made to the Lexington Humane Society, 1500 Old Frankfort Pike, Lexington, KY 40508.

MARIE JACKSON

Marie E. Jackson, 88, of Shelbyville, formerly of Burgin, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at her residence.

Born Thursday, February 26, 1920 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Graff Egger.  She was the widow of Scott Jackson.

She was a member of Junction City First Baptist Church.  Marie enjoyed quilting and gardening.

Survivors include: one daughter, Ingrid J. Coyle of Shelbyville; and four grandchildren, Clifford L. “Skip” Coyle III of Louisville, Marcus Coyle of Shelbyville, Jeffery Jackson of Mt. Washington and Jessica Jackson of Burgin.

She was predeceased by a son, Wayne Clarke Jackson.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 9, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with Rev. Ernest Martin officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeffery Jackson, Marc Coyle, Brent Welty, Lee Welty, Jeffery Matherly and Tommy Stuart.

Honorary pallbearers were Skip Coyle, Clyde Jackson, Dick Weaver, Robert, David, and John Overstreet.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville.

RAYMOND KELLEY JR.

Raymond “Raymie” Eugene Kelley Jr., 42, of Junction City died Friday May 9, 2008, at the Christian Care Center in Lancaster.

Born October 30, 1965, in Danville, he was the son of Raymond and Peggy Hood Kelley of Junction City.

Other survivors include: a sister, Danielle (Dan) Burke of Danville; a brother, John Kelley of Burgin; two grandmothers, Sylvia Kelley of Junction City and Eva Hood of Danville; an uncle, Jimmy (Debbie) Hood of Danville; an aunt, Marie Shoemaker of Indianapolis; a nephew, Hayden Kelley; and a niece, Natalie Burke.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Virgil Kelley and John Hood.

Services were held Tuesday, May 13, at the Stith Funeral Home and Family Center of Junction City with Rev. Dale Denton officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Hood, Dan Burke, Glen Wilson, Lawrence Kendrick, Larry Kendrick and Pete Kendrick.

Honorary pallbearers were Laura Hall and Kim Johnson.

The family requests memorial donations go to First Baptist Church of Junction City Building Fund.

Stith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

JIMMIE MCKEE

     Jimmie Dale McKee, 60, of Mitchellsburg, died Saturday, May 10, 2008.

     Born Oct. 13, 1947, he was the son of the lat Ralph Kenneth and Etta Juanita Wilson McKee and was the husband of Betty Tucker McKee.

     He was a graduate of Boyle County High School, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Harvey Maguire Masonic Lodge and was a drummer and singer for many are bands including the Cheyenne Band, Larry Sanders and Borderline, the Del Rays and the Kentucky Strangers band with whom he played and sang at The Barn in Burgin for many years.

     In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Julie Dale Huntsinger of Perryville; one brother, Ralph (Diane) McKee of Hustonville; five sisters, Patsy (Truman) Bottom of Wilmore, Doloros McKee of Danville, Terry (Danny) Patton of Bryantsville, Melody 9Larry) Pike of Harrodsburg and Becky (Jeff) Quisenberry of Danville and two grandsons.

     He was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Allen and a brother, Michael McKee.

     The funeral was held Wednesday, May 14 at the Stith Funeral Home and Family Center in Junction City with Rev. Rick McKinney officiating. Burial was in the Wilson/Fairview Cemetery.

     Memorial contributions may be made to the Harvey Maguire Masonic Lodge.

KELLY RICE

     Kelly Dean Rice, 71, died Monday, May 12, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

     Born March 12, 1937 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late John Jackson and Julie Southerland Rice and was the husband of Doris “Peggy” Merriman Rice.

     He was a retired drywall contractor and owner of Rice Drywall, a founding member of Shelby Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel.

     In addition to his wife, survivors include: sons, Ricky G. Rice and his wife Marie of Harrodsburg and Drew Rice and his wife, Cari of Harrodsburg  and Robin Merriman and his wife Jackie, whom he raised as a son, also of Harrodsburg; Jacqueline Darlene Merriman, whom he raised as a daughter; five brothers, Billy Rice of Nancy, Dwain Rice of Liberty, Paul Rice of Moreland, Charles Rice of Corinth, and J. T. Rice of Junction City; his grandchildren, Megan & Ashley Rice and Kellie Renee Schaub, whom he thought of as a granddaughter; three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jeremy & Jenna Schaub and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Lice Crow, Julie Ann Griffit, and Barbara Sue Rice and his half-brothers and half-sisters.

     Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Morris Trayner, Father John Hall and Dr. Tommy Valentine officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Tim White, Jeff Blankenship, Daniel Moore, Jeff Wilson, Kenney Stratton and Greg Davis serving as pallbearers and Teddy Walker, Ben Henson, Tommy Walker, Scott Bodner, Walter Cummins and Dr. Rick Angel serving as honorary pallbearers.

     Visitation 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and after 7 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

JOHN SHORT

John Stephen Short, 69, of Lexington, husband of Marsha Kay Short, died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.

Born in Burgin, he was a son of the late Stephen and Anna Short.

He was a customer service representative of Central Parking and a member of the Church of Deliverance.

Survivors, other than his wife, include: one sister, Shirley Ann Short, Harrodsburg; a godson, Michael Ingram, Lexington; a very special friend, David L. Meek, Lexington; and many other friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 13, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main Street, Lexington. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
